JOB SUMMARY:
 

Under direct supervision of the Mountain Youth Network (MYN) Manager, the MYN Youth Programs Coordinator (YPC) develops opportunities for youth engagement and manages TREK Outdoors (youth outdoor leadership program). TREK Outdoors enables youth in Clear Creek County to access outdoor recreation opportunities teaching leadership, resiliency, teamwork, empathy, responsibility, problem-solving, and communication. Participants develop technical skills in activities including but not limited to camping, hiking, backpacking, biking, rafting, snowshoeing, climbing, skateboarding, etc. The MYN YPC is also responsible for delivering an evidence-based curriculum, working closely with the Clear Creek School District for in-class instruction at the middle school level. The YPC follows the Positive Youth Development (PYD) framework to promote protective factors and prevent risk behaviors, including substance use and violence, within Clear Creek County youth.

Variable hours, including weekends and after-school time (after 4 pm on weekdays), are required.

PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES:
 
 
Cultivate and sustain organizational partnerships with youth, school staff, and outdoor organizations and businesses.
 
Collaborate with and support Mountain Youth Network (MYN) staff and coalition in Positive Youth Development (PYD).
 
Planned and implemented social-emotional learning and evidence-based lessons and activities for groups assigned to lead.
 
Provide mentoring, opportunities for connection, and future planning with youth.
 
Model best practices, provide a positive learning environment, and exemplify professionalism to, for, and with youth participants.
 
Plan activities and programming for youth engagement in collaboration with MYN staff and other youth-serving entities.
 
Compile statistics and assist with grant writing, reporting, and expense management.
 
Assist with relevant communications, including social media, website, print, and radio messaging.
 
Attend outreach events to promote out-of-school activities.
 
Develop/impart surveys and interpret data to measure outcomes.
 
Contracts/MOUs/Partnership Management.
 
Implement evidence-based programs, including but not limited to Botvins LifeSkills Training.
 
Assist with coordinating required grant site visits and participating in grant check-in calls.
 
Outdoor Leadership
 
Plan, organize, and lead camping, hiking, backpacking, snowshoeing, and other outdoor programs.
 
Deliver curricula on leadership, communication, team-building, and outdoor skills.
 
Lead effective execution of logistics for outdoor programs, including food purchasing, permitting, gear needs, transportation, and creating itineraries.
 
Co-coordinate and facilitate MYN Outdoor Leadership Committee (OLC) meetings to engage volunteers who support TREK Outdoors programs.
 
Document trips through photos and informative trip summaries.
 
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
 
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION
 
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education/experience.
 
Two years experience in outdoor leadership/recreation, environmental education, positive youth development, education, or a related field (working with youth).
 
Experience working with youth 11-18 years of age.
 
Experience coordinating and leading multi-day wilderness trips preferred.
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Skilled in logistics and organization for outdoor program planning and implementation. As well as expected participation in all planned events.
 
Knowledge in risk management and handling emergencies in the wilderness, i.e., injuries, youth safety concerns, youth mental health concerns, etc.
 
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
 
Ability to accurately and effectively transmit and receive information necessary to accomplish goals and objectives, including effective written and oral communication; responsible for keeping customers, subordinates, peers, and supervisors informed; and excellent listening.
 
Ability to form and maintain courteous and effective working relationships with strategic partners, county departments, co-workers, and other agencies.
 
Ability to speak clearly and effectively to a variety of audiences.
 
Must be self-directed, as well as a team player.
 
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
 
Must have a valid Colorado Motor Vehicle Driver's License
 
Must pass a background check: Criminal and Traffic
 
Conviction of a crime will not be an absolute bar to employment
 
Required legal authorization to work - United States citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States
 
Certification in Wilderness First Aid, CPR, and Positive Youth Development (PYD). If not current, it must be obtained within three to six months of hire.
 
Evidence-based Curriculum Instructor Certification (Botvins LifeSkills Training). If not current, it must be obtained within three months of hire.
 
Additional certifications: Wilderness First Responder, Avalanche 1, Avalanche RESCUE, Wilderness First Aid Instructor, QPR, CTC Facilitator, Ethics in Prevention, Youth Mental Health First Aid, among others assigned by MYN Manager.

The employee frequently is required to sit and stand for long periods, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, and reach with hands or arms. Must be able to respond to the customers' needs and perform tasks requiring extensive hand and eye coordination—dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other devices and objects. The employee must frequently lift and move objects in a range from 25 up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to work occasional weekends and evenings.

Work is performed in both an office environment and an outdoor environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax/scan machines. In the outdoors, this position will routinely use hiking equipment, bikes, snowshoes, and other necessary outdoor activity equipment appropriate to the type of activity.

Outdoor activities may include the following examples of expected activities: hiking, backpacking, biking, rafting, snowshoeing, and climbing. Ability to hike in mountainous terrain is necessary. Conditions that a person in this job can experience include possible exposure to unknown and dangerous situations, loud noise, all types of weather and non-weather conditions, exposure to extremes of temperatures, fumes, odors, dirt, dust, and exposure hazards associated with moving vehicles and operating a 12-14 passenger van safely and in poor driving conditions. Some activities require climbing and manual dexterity.

EMERGENCY DEPLOYMENT
 
 

Employees may be temporarily reassigned to perform emergency response or disaster recovery duties within their department or in other County departments during a County-declared emergency or disaster, as authorized under the Clear Creek County Employee Disaster Deployment Policy. Such assignments will align with operational needs and the employee's skills and may occur with limited notice. Deployment assignments require employee agreement, and employees will continue to receive their regular compensation in accordance with County policies and applicable labor laws during such assignments.
